Sommelier Competition

The Singapore Sommelier Challenge 2011 is an inaugural challenge for F&B professionals to pit their wine appreciation skills against each other in a friendly competition held in the nation’s iconic Singapore Flyer.

A total of 60 participants from reputable F&B establishments all around Singapore gathered at the preliminary round to go through an intense round of written examination and blind tasting. Eventually the top 12 from the prelims make it to the finals.

In the finals, the difficulty of the competition was taken to a higher level where contestants are made to taste at high altitude on board the Singapore Flyer capsule. After which they are went through a question and answering section with reputable panel of judges.

Emerging as the winner of the competition was Vincent Kwong from the Paradise Group of Restaurant, 1st runner up Liona Lee from Raffles Hotel Singapore and 2nd runner up Daisuke Kawai from Les Amis Group. The winner of the competition will join other trade professionals on a harvesting trip to visit Marrenon and Piccini winery in France and Italy

Special guests that turn up for the event includes Robert Ostrich from France, Justin Lee from the Emerald Hill Group, Gregoire Debre, Regional Manager of Sopexa Singapore, Ms Tan Peirui Assistant Director of Singapore Tourism Board and Michel Cywinski country director for the French Embassy.
